7 T superconducting magnet

  Superconducting magnet (SCM) is available for XMCD experiments at BL39XU. Magnetic field of 7 T can be applied to the samples in the horizontal direction. XMCD measurements can be performed not only in transmission mode but also in fluorescence mode since the SCM with split-pair-type magnetic poles equips four X-ray windows in the horizontal plane. The specifications of the SCM are summarized in Table 1. The SCM is equipped with a pulse-tube-type cryostat to cool the magnet coils and samples, and neither liquid helium nor liquid nitrogen is required. This feature makes the apparatus convenient. However, it takes longer to cool the samples and to sweep magnetic fields compared to normal-type SCMs that use coolant.
  6 samples can be mounted to the sample holder for the transmission method since the sample rod is separately moved from the SCM. Moreover, the sample room (Variable Temperature Insert: VTI) of 30 mm in diameter is relatively large, so the measurements under multiple extreme conditions such as low temperature, high magnetic field, and high pressure can be realized by mounting tiny diamond-anvil-cell (DAC) to the sample rod.
